On Gerchik’s blog cross survey
Looking through webblogs on Uzbekistan I’ve found out a blog of Gerchik whose posts seemed to me too radical for Uzbek living in Uzbekistan and writing a blog being in the country.
In his last post he’s given reasons to leave Uzbekistan. I’m listing them you in order to make you understand how it is morally catastrophic to be a citizen of a rural area in our country.
The reasons are:
1. Electricity cut offs in the whole quarters for two and more weeks, even on holidays. It is all due to the unorganized work of State Electricity Department staff, which collects payment for electricity. Moreover, they take bribes by “rewinding” the electricity meter back.
2. Electricity supply is limited to 4 hours per day in rural areas;
3. There is a great shortage of gas in people’s houses, despite the fact that we live in a country rich in natural gas;
4. The average Uzbek can’t feed his family and have to become migrant workers like Ravshan and Jumshud (characters in popular Russian comedy show “Nasha Russia”);
5. The average Uzbek family can’t cover expenses for municipal services;
6. The state officials are impudent enough to publicly lie that an average Uzbek citizen earns 200 USD per month;
7. And these state officials are re-elected for the third terms in their positions.
At the end author mentions that it’s not the all.
Nice post and nice reasons to leave. But how to leave if it’s your motherland for many years and you’d love it even there were deserts only?! What about you, Uzbekistanis?
