Re-elected Uzbek President Islam Karimov met with his Russian colleague Vladimir Putin this week and discussed economic and political cooperation between the two countries. But it remains unclear whether the issues of migration and ultra-nationalism has also been put on the table. Because it should have been raised.

Recently Kyrgyz embassy in Moscow filed an official note to the Russian Ministry of foreign affairs urging for the explanation for the frequent killings of its citizens. Since the beginning of the 2008 there were three Kyrgyz nationals killed in the neo-nazi attacks.

The statistics and analysis presented by the Russian SOVA Center Rights Group are quite alarming. According to them 67 people were killed and 550 people injured in hate crimes in 2007.

Most of the attacks are committed by organized groups of ultra-nationalists. In 2007, according to SOVA center 96 people were prosecuted by the authorities, five were fined and 13 were freed for being underage minors.

If you look through the statistics the center provides, one can see that Uzbeks are most attacked in Russia. Saint-Petersburg and Moscow remain the major hotspots of hate crime.

You may also refer to the table provided in the report (ENG) of the deputy director of the SOVA center Galina Kozhevnikova.

İ hate russians for their nationalistic approach. while protesting against baltic states’s “unrespect to WW2 victims and fascism” they violate the principle of tolerance, respect and friendship themselves. at such moments i’m becoming mad and wanna kill those russian bustrds!

Once again, this shows the Uzbeks that the Russians are not your brothers (and don’t say that the neo-Nazis are only a tiny marginal band, there is a much larger undercurrent in Russian society that approves and supports this).

I wonder if these Russian skinheads would have been that ‘couageaous’ had they been confronted with a Hezbollah commando squad.

Only Islam can save the Uzbeks!

Labor emigration is the primary cause…..Russian nationalism is the secondary. People’s deaths in the hands of racists shouldn’t be used as an excuse for vahhabi recruits.
